Erin Community Theatre: 2001-NOW!

Our organization, inspired by the opening of the new Centre 2000 complex, complete with theatre, formed in 2001. However, it is really a successor of the former Erin Little Theatre (1992-1997).

Our premier production, “Run For Your Wife”, opened in November 2001. It was very successful, and greatly helped by the support of the council.

In May 2003 “Holiday Snap” was well received, but was met with such a hike in theatre rental expenses that we were left in the red.

We began our next season in November 2002 with the musical “You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown”, which starred local high school students. The show was very well attended, but again high theatre rental costs took their toll. This show was followed by “Arsenic and Old Lace” in May 2003. The Erin Arts Foundation generously supported this production, and it was a success for the bank as well as the audience. We even sold out the house at one production!

The 2003/04 season featured a number of successful productions, beginning with Agatha Christie’s “Ten Little Indians”, which played in November 2003. Following this, we held out first children’s workshop, “Jock Macbeth”, from January to March 2004. The closer for the season was the renowned Neil Simon Comedy “Rumors”, in May 2004, to bring our total production number to seven!

In November 2004 we presented “The Mumberley Inheritance”, a melodrama by Warren Graves.

In the spring of 2005, ECT decided to switch their season to the calendar year, and was excited to once again run a children’s workshop, "The Wizard of Oz". In May 2005 we produced “A Bad Year for Tomatoes” by John Patrick, which was a big first, being the only full-scale show to be performed at the Century Church Theatre and the only ECT show to be performed for two consecutive weeks. We concluded 2005 by assisting Stonehome Productions with their musical, "Homechild: A Musical Journey".

The coming season promises to bring an exciting, if sometimes hectic, new face for ECT. With the return to Centre 2000 and new directors Susanna Lamy and Steve Sherry, we look forward to continuing the ECT intitiative - "People for People": high-quality entertainment produced for you, by your friends and neighbours!
